Badger Persecution comes in different forms.

1. Badger Baiting occurs when a group of men (always men) put terriers wearing radio tracer collars, into a sett to locate the badger. They then dig the badger out and throw it to larger bull-cross lurchers, to be torn to pieces.

2Lamping involves trespassing on farm land, often using 4x4 vehicles or quads, and powerful lamps, setting bull-lurcher dogs onto any wild or domestic animal they can find. Injuries sustained by the dogs are not treated as this would draw attention to the crime.

3. Snaring often occurs on land surrounding shooting estates. It is legal if snares are correctly set away from known badger areas but sometimes badgers are illegally targeted. SYBG campaign against snaring of any kind. We have found snared badgers with horific scars from previous snare injuries.

4. Sett Blocking is carried out by fox hunts to stop the fox entering the sett. If the fox does enter a sett, terriers and spades are used to remove it. All sett blocking along with hunting with dogs is now illegal, but it still happens, as does fox hunting.

5. Poisoning sometimes occurs in the vicinity of shooting estates. The photo shows potatoes filled with poison, found outside a badger sett on game-keepered land. SYBG involved the police in this incident.
